Amazing Mashru Bags

Amazing Mashru Bags

The first in the series is the Mashru clutch. Mashru, is a fabric i have been fascinated with since my Childhood days in my home. The allure of the rich silky sheen and bright colours took me to Patan in Gujarat one weekend where this fabric is hand-woven , it is believed to have come to India through Syria.

It is a satin weave with a silk warp and a cotton weft. The literal meaning of Mashru is permitted. According to Islamic custom, silk should not be worn against the skin. The satin weave of Mashru is only seen on the face of the fabric and it’s the cotton that brushes against the skin. These days rayon is used instead of silk.

I have used Mashru to create these chic clutches, a deadly combination of style and an age old culture. Perfect for the eclectic fashionista!

History Of Mashru                    Mashru fabric is special made for Islamic people. The Mashru fabric was introduced by Mughal Empire in the 16 th century. The aim of development of Mashru fabric was, because in their religion they could not wear silk so they had to decide to made it. Mahrsu fabric upper part is silk and bottom part is cotton. So do to this the cotton is touched to body and silk is not touched to body. You can wear Mashru material in any season. During winter season silk protected you by cold and in summer season cotton is useful for sweat. In Arab and Iraq country people are wearing Mashru fabric more. Mahsru is more famous for its signing. This mahsru is only weaving in Gujarat Patan and two community people work together for making this Mahsru, the two communities are Khatri and Muslim.  KATARIA Mashru
